This first time I saw Kevin was in my yoga class. He walked
in late, wearing a ratty high school jersey and shorts that
were one step above boxers. He flopped his yoga mat to the floor
in a way that I thought seemed pretty arrogant. I immediately
dismissed him as “fratty” and “douchey,”
and I’m only into those two qualities when I’m drunk,
so let’s just say it wasn’t love at first sight.
..A
few months later, after a few minor run-ins, we each attended
a yoga class where we were the only ones besides the teacher.
I went home after class to get some freelance work done --
so obviously, I immediately started wasting time on Facebook.
I saw Kevin's profile and I sent him a friend request for
no reason other than adding to my total number of Facebook
friends. This, I’ve learned, was a mistake as Kevin
now believes I was consumed with thoughts of him from day
one, which is SO not true. Later that day, he accepted my
friend request and replied with a message, stating, “That’s
so crazy, I just logged on to stalk you, but it turns out,
you’re obsessed with me!”
..His
message made me laugh, but since it was completely untrue,
I had to reply saying, “I was really just bored while
working on a freelance project and happened to see that we
had a friend in common.” Kevin responded with, “Did
you get your freelance work done? Yes? Good. Let’s celebrate
with drinks.” His message was confident, which I liked.
I’ll admit, at that point my interest was piqued. We
decided to go out that weekend and Kevin suggested we go ice
skating in Santa Monica. Being from Minnesota, ice skating
had no cool, kitsch factor in my mind. My memories of skating
in the “land of 10,000 lakes” involved me standing
(not skating) on a bumpy and cracked frozen pond in negative
10 degree weather. Basically, I wasn’t jumping for joy
at the thought of reliving that experience! However, I didn’t
want to downplay the fun date idea; it’s not every day
someone wants to stray from the usual dinner and drinks routine
so I agreed to go.
The night
of our first date, Kevin picked me up and suggested we grab
a drink first. “Ok!” I said, jumping way too quickly
at the suggestion. I was excited to delay what I figured would
be a debacle on ice. We headed to Cabo Cantina nearby and
six hours later we were still there! We had so much fun talking
that neither of us realized the skating rink had already closed!
(Score for me.) Caught up in the moment at the end of the
night, I challenged Kevin to steal one of our giant margarita
glasses from the restaurant. This was my second mistake as
it gave Kevin the opportunity to call upon my weakness for
a dare. He agreed to sneak it out, but only if I stole the
nearby water pitcher. Not one to step down from a challenge,
I tucked the giant thing under my coat and walked out with
a new souvenir of our first date, as did Kevin. While it may
not have been love at first sight, it was definitely love
at first date!

When I first saw Laura at yoga, I was immediately taken with
her beauty, spirit and strength. She was, and is, the most stunning
woman I have ever seen in my entire life. I was obsessed with
her from day one, and still am. She is not only amazing, but
flawless and can do no wrong. Clearly, I am the luckiest man
in the world. I will do anything in my power to make her happy
all day, every day.
